Does anybody have the lowdown on why the band replaced Ross Childress and what he is doing now? Just curious; though I think "Youth" is fantastic I do miss Ross's guit.

After finishing watching Grey's Anatomy last night, I clicked on our My Shows (btw, we have Ultimate TV, like Tivo, just went out of business) and to my surprise, it had 2 things for Collective Soul. I knew about one of them, the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at Macy's in Atlanta, GA. I already watched it, but we were saving it to watch their performance again. Well, there was something else that had recorded because I have an automatic search set up for Collective Soul in the Ultimate TV. It recorded their live performance with the Altanta Symphony Youth Orchestra!!!!! It was on the Freeview channel all month this month and we got it. Its awesome!!!!! I sat there and watched the whole thing and their music sounds awesome with a symphony orchestra backing them!!! The guys are so into it too. There was one sad part in the video and it was so cute, it was Ed singing Who's Gonna Wear My Crown with a guitar and the orchestra. He dedicated it to their dad who died in 2004. When the band came back out to join him, Dean walked over and put his arm around Ed and kissed him on his head. That was so sweet! But just a sad moment in the video. Ed had tears in his eyes at the end of that performance. Brandon is upstairs watching it now and we were planning on pre-ordering the video and cd, which we still are, but we got an early preview and we're loving it!!!!

Hi everyone, I'm new to this whole Live Journal thing and I'm a huge Collective Soul fan and was hoping to find other fans here to talk about them with. I've been a fan since I heard Shine on the radio way back when and have just recently saw them live for the first time back in November. Since November I've seen them 12 times and I adore them, they are my absolute favorite band. I'm seeing them again in two weeks in Canton Ohio. I can't wait! Anyway it is nice meeting all of you, feel free to add me to your friends list!

Last Night Was Awsome!!!!! [15 Jun 2005|09:34am]

I had the time of my life at the CS concert last night. That was a GREAT show. They played at the NorVa in Norfolk,VA. It was my first CS concert! I loved it when they played Squeeze Box by:The Who. Ed droped the mic. so they ended up playing one more song which was awsome. I thought it was sOoOo sweet how Ed wrote Satellite for his son, My favorite song that the played was Heavy. I've always loved that song, but it sounded 10 times better live. Oh yeah...Dean also looks 10 times hotter in person too. I didn't get home untill 1:30am. Then had to wake up at 6am for an eXam. Now I'm home, and I'm going to go to sleep.

Has anyone seen the new Special K with Red Berries commercial? My mom was watching the Price is Right this morning and I was in the next room when it came on. The only reason I even took notice was because I heard a familiar tune playing in the background. So I went in to watch the commercial and lo and behold, that familiar tune is "Better Now!" I can care less for the cereal, but I thought it was cool that they chose this song for their product. I think this is the first time I've ever heard a CS song in a commercial. Anyways, just a heads-up for anyone who cares. :)

I guess I should say hi... [06 May 2005|11:15pm]

Why is it that whenever I have to write an introductory post I feel like i'm in high school saying what I did on my summer vacation...

Anyways, i've been a fan of the band since way back, and when I was in high school I was very hardcore. I was looking at old agenda's and stuff and there are pictures of the band and Collective Soul Rules all over them... then I went to university while they were on break and i think it worked out well for me because I was stressing so much on the school that I didn't really make time for anything else... Then a few months after I graduated from university I bought "Youth" the day it came out and I couldn't stop listening to it. I then got the fortunate (long story as to how I managed to get a ticket to the very sold out show) chance to see them live again last night and all the memories as to why they are my favorite band came flooding back with the first song...I was so excited and so happy to be there and the show was just amazing. I'm so glad that they are back...

a triumphant return Home [24 Apr 2005|11:19pm]

I went to Saturday's concert with the atlanta symphony youth orchestra. needless to say, it was awesome. there was a brief opening act, an old friend of Ed's (really wish i could remember his name). then the band kicked things off with the orchestra, beginning with counting the days. there were a lot of songs i was expecting and really looking forward to being performed with an orchestra (like december, run, and the world i know... mostly the really good songs that were recorded originally with a quartet), but the symphony infused new life into some songs i hadn't really thought about. they never sounded out of place, even on songs like heavy or gel.

the most touching run of songs came about halfway through the show. the band stepped offstage, and runners setup for a quartet. four musicians stepped out of the orchestra and formed a quartet center stage. they then began to play pretty donna, a song i hadn't even dreamed about hearing live. about halfway through the song, the entire orchestra joined in. then ed came back out, and performed how do you love with the orchestra. following that, as a tribute to his dad, ed performed crown with the orchestra. will also played percussion on the song. at the song's end, dean came back out, kissed ed on the head, and the band moved on to the next song.

the rest of the show was like the beginning, lively and energetic. the band ended their show with home, playing with the orchestra and having the audience sing along. then, the encore. dedicated to ed's son, the band played satellite. then they closed with shine, of course. the audience got really into it, and at the end, when they get to sing the chorus on their own, it was obvious. the band finished and let the audience keep going, but we didn't really know when to stop. the band just kinda stood there watching us, and finally, while we continued singing, ed sorta laughed and walked offstage. finally the chanting of "heaven let your light shine down" died off and was replaced with cheering and applause.

the band was really awesome, and the orchestra was superb. the kids did a really good job. some of them even had to give up their prom to perform that night. i was really impressed, and they deserve a lot of recognition for the show.

both shows, saturday and sunday, are being recorded. the double-cd and the dvd, titled Home, should come out in october. i can't wait to get them. this was a really great return to their own home, and an awesome collaboration with the youth of atlanta. it's good to see collective soul back in action and so alive and doing what they do.

Hey everyone! I'm new to the community. I just joined yesterday. Anyways, one of my best friends is in the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO)  and they were playing with Collective Soul last night and tonight. Since they had a soundcheck before the show yesterday, they said that family of the ASYO can come and watch instead of paying $70+ for a ticket for the actual show. I got to go with my friend's family and pretend I was her sister lol.  It was sooo awesome! I got to hear Crown, Better Now, and Shine, and I'm pretty sure that was it cause they had to keep stopping, but it was so awesome! I wasn't a huge fan before yesterday lol but now I've become addicted, like downloading ringtones and everything haha. Collective Soul is soo good! :)  Sorry, I just had an awesome time! I took some pix so I'll post some of them under the cut if you're interested! -Rinn

Hey guys, I just got back from the show at the Webster in Hartford, CT. Did anyone here get a chance to go? They were awesome, as always. The set list was a mix of their usual hits, but they played a couple songs that I wasn't expecting. The first one was Sister Don't Cry, and the other one was Squeeze Box by Pete Townshend. I've never heard them do this song before, so I figured see if any of you have. Does anyone happen to have this song, as covered by CS? I'd very much like to have it if you do. (:
